Cat and kitten Preventive Care
The best way to deal with a medical problem is to prevent it from occurring in the first place.
The following are the recommendations of Mobile Veterinary Service for your cat and kitten preventative care :
Kitten needs:
Initial Vaccines/De-worm
6-8 weeks | 10-12 weeks | 12 weeks |

* FVRCP = Feline Distemper/Rhino virus, Panluekopenia virus, etc. **Rabies vaccine (Required by Alabama State law) Outside cats are susceptible to Feline Leukemia virus – vaccination optional (read report)
Parasite Control
De-worming every 2 months for the first year
Recommended:
Flea and tick prevention –
- Beginning at 8 weeks of age – A topical product (like Frontline/Advantage) can be applied at least every 2 months for fleas and ticks.
- For fleas only – begining at 14 weeks – Comfortis can be used.
Neutering (spay or castrate) after 5-6 mo of age
Adult Cats:
- Booster Feline distemper vaccine: Annually
- Booster additional vaccines if used (read report)
- Rabies vaccine booster (Current rabies vaccine required by Alabama State law)
- Fecal testing annually – Additional de-worming varies based on test
- Continue – Flea and Tick prevention (same as above)
